A new initiative towards a more sustainable life on our islands

Join with us as we work to create a
friendly alternative transportation system.

sjRIDESHARE has been approved by both
San Juan County and the Town of Friday Harbor
and implementation is underway!

Signs will be installed soon marking safe roadside waiting places and
car pull-outs; places from which we can all more easily share rides.
Most of the initial locations will be on San Juan Island, although there will
also be a small number on Lopez and Orcas islands. We hope more safe
sites can be suggested, meet county standards and be added to the system.

Once the sign locations are finalized a public awareness campaign will be
launched to provide information, guidelines and support materials.
The sjRIDESHARE program will not offer background checks or
county-approved I.D. cards. Please use your own good
judgment in offering or accepting rides.

You can plan to regularly leave your car at home and safely find a
ride to town or work, or in turn offer someone a ride home with their
groceries. . . supporting more sustainable island living, building community,
reducing gas consumption, and resulting greenhouse gases…

A small first step towards solving a few growing island problems:
high gas prices
town parking problems
ever increasing traffic and fuel emissions
